Job description

The automation technician is responsible for programming PLCs, operator interfaces, PLC/HMIs and robots according to Systemex Automation standards and project specifications. Depending on his/her experience, he/she participates in design, functional analysis, project documentation, testing, start-up and customer training.

Main responsibilities

  • Responsible for programming and commissioning in various projects
  • Troubleshooting of automated cells
  • Program enhancement to reduce cycle times
  • Wiring and programming of new automated cells
  • Preparing and writing technical documents such as functional descriptions and data sheets
  • Comply with programming standards and methods, and propose improvements in key areas of responsibility
  • Write reports, specifications, quotations and tenders, in accordance with customer requirements
  • Solve problems using a variety of known and innovative methods and techniques, and conduct comparative studies
  • Manage the installation and operation of systems under his/her responsibility
  • Evaluate customer satisfaction and maintain close customer relations
  • Carry out inspections and technical surveys
  • Plan, coordinate and supervise site follow-ups
  • Identify and liaise with potential suppliers

Desired skills

  • Degree in instrumentation and automation or equivalent
  • Minimum 8 years' relevant experience
  • Knowledge of Siemens, Wondeware, Allen Bradley, Omron, etc.
  • Experience working in automation in various fields (asset)
  • Experience with real-time control techniques on PC and PLC platforms
  • Experience in PLC, HMI, DCS programming in various programming languages
  • Knowledge of AGV/AMR (asset)
  • Proposal-driven
  • Very good knowledge of IT, server/client systems and process networking
  • Very good command of the French language and good knowledge of the English language (oral and written), with a strong sense of oral and written communication.
  • Leadership and teamwork skills
  • Strong aptitude for continuous development of technical knowledge
  • Proficiency in project management, technical writing and independent resolution of complex problems
  • On the lookout for business opportunities with our customers
  • Available to travel
